We found the small mushroom scratcher at Petco. The cactus came from Chewy, I believe. Although not scratchers, we found the set of wall platforms on wayfair for only $108, shipping included. Kevin and Luisa are very spoiled, deservedly so. 😂

What a lovely story and greetings from my Morning Coat British Shorthair Sir Montgomery, or Monty to his friends. He is already five years.

Tim, he was on Robin’s MeowStack a couple of weeks ago. I am on my mobile where linking to it is difficult at best with their App… Monty is the name, a grey tuxedo, hence the morning suit.

Yes, or at least he thinks he’s very special—so elegant compared to all the other cats in his territory with his blue grey coat and white socks.

Very cute article. I’m a big fan of these two little fluff balls. I think they are the most adorable cat faces I’ve ever seen. Kevin and Luisa have the best toys, scratchers and places to climb. I look forward to new posts about them, as it’s such a sweet treat for my mind, given the nutso things going on in the US. There’s a possibility of a catio in their future, so that might need to be another episode. I’m curious if Kevin will still sleep like a baked potato outdoors in a catio. Luisa looks so cute in her harness. If she doesn’t need to wear it in a catio, I think she needs a fashion item to replace it. If you haven’t seen the photo of her in their backyard with her in the pink harness, ask

Tim to post it. You’ll

See what I mean.

Other than my wife and I, you are quite possibly their biggest fan, Janis. I love receiving your reactions to them and am glad it can take your and other’s minds off of the never ending stream of chaos taking place around us. 🤯

I started this Substack thinking maybe I would add to the collective discourse and maybe share some personal stories when I felt brave enough to do so. Then Karl died, and Kevin & Luisa came along and I found that sharing their stories and documenting their lives, not only took my mind off the chaos, but seemed to do the same for others as well. Seeing their little faces, even if it’s just for a moment, makes it feel like everything is ok.

Yes those little faces and their personalities absolutely tickle me. I’m a sucker for animals, and I think I could love any dog or cat. And if I had my way I’d probably have a menagerie of animals. But some are just so cute I can hardly stand it. I think you understand that, given that you see those little faces every day. I’m very happy that people are putting their pets on Substack, although I think some folks would prefer just literary accounts. But our pets are family too, and they contribute so much to our lives. Pet lovers enjoy seeing other pets. It’s good medicine, like laughing. I’ll bet Stephanie really misses the kitties on her trip. It would be hard to leave them.

She was away for a week, she missed them a lot. They definitely missed her as well. Stephanie called on Sunday evening and when Kevin heard her voice, he started sniffing the air and acted a bit confused. He then went from the front door to the back door over and over again, staring outside each time and doing his signature confused/questioning meow. He did this for about an hour until he hopped up and crashed on the couch. It seemed like he was looking for her. He is so sweet. 🥰

The day she got back, Luisa snuggled hard with her on the couch. Luisa is different with her affection. It is on her terms and her terms only. Sometimes we try and pet her only to have her contort her body in such a manner that your hand barely grazes her from her head all the way down to her tail. She’s just like, nope, not right now human, only I initiate the loves! 😂 So when she snuggles, it always seems extra special.

Sniffing the air looking for mom. That is so cute, I could just see him. He was trying to manifest Stephanie. Luisa has a mild streak of cat aloofness. Some cats are all aloofness though. I used to housesit for a friend with two huge Persians. One was snuggly but the other was a grumpy butt. He would get on a lap when he felt like it and make biscuits. But if you had to get up for some reason and that was not his timing, he would yowl, grab your hands and act like he was biting you, then he’d smack your hands and arms like you’d done something wrong, such as take his bowl of his favorite stinky wet food away when he was still eating. That grumpy cat acted like he had a migraine and his feet hurt. He did that to the owners too, and they warned me. But I thought, nah he won’t do that to me. 😂 wrong.

That’s funny about the grumpy cat. I’m glad Luisa isn’t fully aloof like that. It’s so incredibly sweet when she is affectionate. Like the video I posted last week where Stephanie was scratching her head and talking to her. She just melted. It’s funny, Luisa follows us around and hangs out wherever we may be, but usually stays just out of reach. It’s like she knows exactly how long our arms are and stays about 1” further away. Kevin on the other hand can’t seem to get enough affection. He is all about it. Sometimes you can just look at him and he starts purring in anticipation. 😂

I’m sure Luisa has laser pointer measuring eyes and purposely stays just beyond reach. She can see it in her minds eye…yep that’s far enough, ha ha you can reach me. I could see Kevin breaking in to a purr and then…flops upside down requesting belly rubs. While Luisa sits there watching, thinking-Kevin you’re way too easy, you’ve got to make them work for it, like I do 😂. Yes I did se the video when Stephanie was packing and Luisa was completely melting in to her. So sweet.

Expand full comment

Their collars really do help. It is quite hard to tell them apart sometimes unless we can get a good look at their faces. It’s also hard to tell from the pictures and videos because the lighting in our house kinda sucks, but Luisa’s coat is quite a bit lighter than Kevin’s. Just this morning I could’ve swore it was Kevin that was snuggling with me in bed when I woke up, nope, it was Luisa. 😂
